MOTS-c (Mitochondrial Open Reading Frame of the 12S rRNA type-C) is a 16-amino acid peptide encoded by mitochondrial DNA. It acts as a cellular signaling molecule that regulates metabolism. By activating the AMPK pathway, it mimics the metabolic effects of exercise, promoting fat oxidation and improving insulin sensitivity.
